The North American Investment and Trade Promotion Association and the National Center for Sustainable Development of the United States jointly established the National Center for Sustainable Development (Chengdu Center). NCSD is committed to building a bridge of communication between China and the United States in the three aspects of environment, energy, and education. Through the organization and development of demonstration projects, the exchanges and development between China and the United States in the above three fields will be promoted. Chengdu Center will be located in Pengzhou City, at the center of Chengdemian Economic Zone, the Northwest Regional Cooperation Center on the development axis of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, and the core area of Chengdu half an hour economic circle. It is one of the four new medium-sized industrial cities planned and developed by Chengdu. .
The National Center for Sustainable Development (NCSD) was established in 2001 and is a non-profit organization formally registered in the United States in compliance with the Federal Government’s 501(c)(3) clause. Its office is located at 1701 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC, USA. Since its establishment, NCSD has been committed to promoting multi-level exchanges between China and the United States in the fields of education, energy, and environment (3E), as well as demonstrating new methods of sustainable development through the implementation of demonstration projects in the field of 3E.
The members of the NCSD Board of Directors are composed of a number of former US government officials and heads of important institutions, who provide expert opinions on the design and implementation of the demonstration projects undertaken by NCSD. Including: the former deputy secretary of the US Department of Justice, the former head of the US Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprises, and the vice chairman of the Albright Foundation. In 2009, the China Clean Development Mechanism Fund Management Center (CDM Fund), approved by the State Council of China and supervised by the Ministry of Finance of China, became a member of the NCSD Council.
NCSD has formed strategic partnerships with a number of Chinese government agencies and related professional institutions. In addition to the China Clean Development Mechanism Fund Management Center (CDM Fund), it also includes: China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, China Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education, Oriental International Educational Exchange Center, China Ministry of Water Resources, China Agricultural Water Conservation and Rural Water Supply Technology Association, China Development and Reform Commission, China Investment Association Energy Development Research Center, China Renewable Energy Society, etc.
